Bobcat

Bobcat Badge

If you are just joining Cub Scouts, you’ve come to the right place. All boys, no matter when they join, have to complete the Bobcat requirements before moving on to a Den. These requirements are designed to teach the boy what Cub Scouting is all about. Everything in Cub Scouting is based on what is learned through the Bobcat Advancement. He will use this knowledge in every stage of his Cub Scout journey and every den reinforces these values.

Let’s get started. There are 8 steps.
Step 1: Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise and complete the Honesty Character Connection in the book.
“I,…(name)…promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack.”

Step 2: Say the Law of the Pack. Tell what it means.
“The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.”

Step 3: Tell what WEBELOS means.
“WE’ll BE LOyal Scouts.”

Step 4: Show the Cub Scout Sign. Tell what it means.
Make the sign with your right hand and with your arm held straight up.
The two raised fingers stand for two parts of the Cub Scout Promise:
“to help other people” and “to obey the Law of the Pack.”

The two raised fingers look like the sharp ears of the wolf ready to listen to Akela.

Step 5: Show the Cub Scout Handshake. Tell what it means.

Step 6: Say the Cub Scout Motto. A motto is a guiding principle.
“Do Your Best”

Step 7: Give the Cub Scout Salute. Tell what it means.

Step 8: With your parent or adult partner, complete requirement 8 as outlined in your respective Den Cub Scout Handbook.

After completing these 8 requirements, a boy will earn the Bobcat badge shown above and you’ll be on your way in the scouting adventure. These are only general descriptions of the requirements. Please refer to the Den Handbook that your boy will recieve when they register.

These are things that ALL Cub Scouts must learn and will be used throughout the program, which is why EVERY boy who enters into Cub Scouting MUST earn the Bobcat Badge.
